Solos con Charrúa, vamos al ataque de una imponente FT australiana integrada por un portaaviones, un par o más de acorazados y varias naves pesadas más. Un suicidio, simplemente.

Catapultados del V1, tomamos rumbo general 255/260º, hasta superar Rennell, cuando información recibida de caza me inclina a tomar rumbo general sur en búsqueda de la FT. Un error garrafal que casi nos cuesta la misión, ya que derivamos demasiado al sur, perdiéndonos en la inmensidad del mar. Eso me obliga a establecer un patrón de búsqueda hacia el oeste y luego al norte, lo que por suerte nos lleva cerca de la FT justo en el momento que abre fuego AAA contra uno de nuestros aviones. En fin, una vez localizada, ponemos rumbo directo a ella, mientras me hago una nota mental, nunca más apartarme de mi plan de vuelo.

Luego de consultar con Charrúa, decidimos ir por el portaaviones, el que se encuentra en el medio de una formación naval imponente.

- Si vamos a caer, que sea a lo grande, es lo que nos decimos y nos arrojamos sobre el objetivo más valioso, el HMAS Melbourne.

Así, 500, 600, 700, 800 km/h se acumulan en nuestro indicador de velocidad mientras entramos hacia la formación como una exhalación, planchados a mínima altura con la luz del radio altímetro destellando desesperadamente al marcar menos de 10 mts. de altura.

El fuego AAA se desata como un enloquecido espectáculo mortal de fuegos artificiales salpicado por columnas de agua. A toda velocidad paso entre dos acorazados que se acribillan entre ellos en el afán de derribarme mientras bailoteo entre trazadoras y géiseres de espuma, estabilizo el avión de golpe, espero ese segundo angustioso mientras dejan de actuar las centrífugas y alineada la popa del Melbourne, suelto bombas y veo pasar fugazmente la banda de babor del portaaviones al virar hacia el oeste buscando el escape mientras pienso a cada segundo que se viene el impacto mortal del fuego defensivo. Sin embargo, y milagrosamente, escapo ileso.

Pero el Melbourne no, mis bombas detonan con retardo destruyendo su popa y provocando su rápido hundimiento.

Pero la desgracia nos acompaña. Mis bombas al detonar alcanzan el Panther de Charrúa, que junto pasa por la vertical de la detonación, dañando elevadores y su turbina, lo que a los pocas millas de la FT, provocan su caída.

Mal por lo sucedido, no puedo disfrutar del espectacular ataque, aunque regreso al V1 sin más novedades, salvo que los tripulantes de cubierta me muestran una pizarra con el nº 97. Extraño.

Con la misma configuración, vamos a atender a los aussies que desembarcan al norte de Bellona.

Como en las misiones anteriores, nos mantenemos con rumbo 300º lejos de la vertical de Rennell para llegar sin oposición a la zona del ataque. Con Charrúa nos decidimos por un nuevo ataque a buques, seguido de estrafeo sobre la playa.

Picamos sobre la formación y me doy cuenta que voy directo a un acorazado. Como creo que mi suerte ha sido bastante exigida hoy, cambio de rumbo y me voy sobre un LST que se halla operando cerca de la playa, lanzo mis bombas y por suerte, nuevamente logro hundir mi objetivo.

Tomamos altura acumulando velocidad para la entrada sin sobrecalentar las temperamentales turbinas y procedemos a estrafrear, primero de oeste a este y luego viceversa, cuando decidimos retirarnos a la FT.

En eso, recibimos comunicación de Chape que está en problemas, acorralado por Seafire muy agresivo que sabiendo que no hay base dónde volver, está francamente decidido que llevarse a alguno con él.

Nos cruzamos con Chape y de movida no logro localizar al avión que lo sigue, luego de unos segundos de confusión lo veo y los persigo. El tipo administra la energía de su avión que es un portento, picando y trepando constantemente, lo que me obliga a seguirlo por todo el firmamento. En uno de esos piques hace como un semitonel y atrapa bajo a Chape, al que destroza con sus cañones sin que pueda hacer nada para impedirlo.

Trepa otra y esta vez casi me atrapa a mí al quitar la potencia de golpe. Sin sacar freno aerodinámico, corto la turbina y hago un tonel volado para mantenerme detrás de sus armas.

Al ver que su truco no resulta, acelera a fondo y pica, acumulando velocidad. Lo sigo y cuando baja el morro, lo toco con los cañones. Continúo detrás de él y luego de tomarme un momento para centrarlo en la mira, ya que estimo que mucha munición no me quedaría luego del strafinng y el combate posterior, aprieto el disparador y un ala es arrancada por los 20 mm.

Ya con el área en paz, nos volvemos al V1 con Charrúa, donde aponto normalmente. Vuelven a mostrarme la pizarra, esta vez con un 98. Pregunto y me dicen que ése es el número de apontajes que llevo, sólo dos me faltan para recibir el distintivo de Centurión. Hago un gesto como sacándole importancia, mientras sonrío: Quién lleva la cuenta ?

Decolo como 3 de la escuadra de Caza para dar cobertura a la 1º esc. de Ataque que atacaria la FT australiana al Sur de Rennell, allí una fuerza de tareas muy bien constituida custodiaba el Melbrune (portaviones australiano). Sobre el sector localizamos bandidos a los que damos caza en el combate logro derribar un enemigo mientras mis compañeros caen, elijo mantenerme sobre el sector con la escuadra de ataque llegando y tratando de mantener la superioridad aérea soy derribado.

Salgo solo en búsqueda de la flota enemiga, pero.al no encontrarla vuelvo yme reuno con Chape con el que nos dirigimos a Bellona.

Trabamos combate y en los mismos derribo un Spitfire, para luego estrellarme en el mar al realiar unas tijeras con dos Spits.

Salimos con Ceteu en busca de la flota identificada al sur de la isla, cuando la encontramos atacamos pero la onda expansiva de las bombas de Ceteu me alcanzan y salgo dañado, no logrando salvarme ya que me incendian el motor y no logro apagarlo.

Nuevamente salimos a aire, esta ves para atacar una playa conocida, encaramos la flota de desembarco, rasantes nos metemos por los buques y mi golpe es mortal en un buque de desembarco.

Estrafeamos la playa pero sin éxito aparente el coas en la misma es enorme corren para todos lados como hormigas cuando se acerca un tormenta.
Luego le damos cobertura a un caza que se encuentra en malas condiciones y perseguido, Ceteu lo elimina pero nuestro amigo esta muerto, regresamos a al flota y apontamos.
