Ni bien nos aprestamos a calentar los motores comienzan a sonar las sirenas de la base, despego lo mas rápido que puedo, como líder con el debutante Guardiamarina Falcon y Tucán, Balker se retrasa por problemas mecánicos, ni bien gano unos 300 metros de altura ya me trenzo en combate logrando luego de muchas maniobras derribar dos Beaufighter, ya sin municiones aterrizo a repostar para volver a salir rápidamente.

Despego nuevamente y logro dar alcance a un Blenheim le descargo toda la artillería y lo dejo averiado, en otra aproximación el inglés pierde velocidad abruptamente y desconcentrado por un 109 que se cruzó adelante me lo llevo puesto.

Despego una vez mas apresuradamente, realizamos una CAP sobre la zona del puerto, suena la alarma nuevamente, esta vez el ataque es realizado por cazas, primeramente logro derribar un Hurri y luego un Spit, sin municiones y con algunos agujeros extras logro aterrizar a salvo.

4to Vuelo:

Despego como líder de la escuadra con Balker, Falcon, Charrúa y Popeye, tomamos altura sobre la base y nos acoplamos a la formación de JU87 que tiene un objetivo terrestre en Dover, nos ubicamos con Charrúa y Popeye a las 3 de los JU mientras Balker y el recién egresado Guardiamarina Falcon a las 9 de la formación, los escoltamos hasta Dover a unos 4000 metros de altura, los bombarderos hacen su trabajo bajo una intensa cortina de AAA pero logran salir de regreso, sin observarse actividad aérea enemiga, bajamos a 3000 saliendo hacia el canal y luego los escoltamos un tiempo mientras realizan tareas de aproximación y aterrizaje. Posteriormente aterrizo sin novedad.

No había terminado aún de celebrar mi graduación como Guardiamarina del GAEv cuando recibí mi primera comisión de guerra en Calais.
Al llegar a la base, el ulular de la sirena congeló mi corazón. Una sola frase corría de boca en boca de los jefes: ?Estamos bajo ataque!?. Bombarderos ingleses acababan de cruzar el Canal de la Mancha hacia Francia. Ni siquiera recuerdo cómo subí a mi avión y puse el motor en marcha, pero en segundos estaba en movimiento. Mi instructor de la escuela, el teniente Pepper, quien horas antes me bautizara, era ahora mi líder en combate y yo lo seguía hacia la cabecera. Despegué nervioso y mi avión se clavó en un pozo. En segundos fue una antorcha. Salvé mi vida de milagro. ?Buen comienzo Falcon?, pensé.

Despegué nuevamente y a los tumbos estuve en el aire hacia el enjambre de bombarderos ingleses.
Tome contacto con uno de ellos ?un Beaufighter- y comencé a dispararle desde sus seis, vi los impactos y cómo empezaba a echar humo negro mientras sus artilleros me dirigían todo su fuego, pero luego no vi nada más. No sé qué suerte corrió ese bombardero. Mi parabrisas se cubrió de aceite y alguien por la radio me alertó ?Estás echando humo 4-3?. A ciegas, guiado por mis compañeros, aterricé en la base como pude. El suelo volvió a jugarme una mala pasada y el avión dio una vuelta de campana explotando en tierra. No sé cómo salí de ese infierno.

Para esta segunda fase de la misión despegué como numeral del capitán Balker, nada menos, en nuestra misión de escolta a los Stukas que se dirigían hacia Dover. Aquí la cosa estuvo más tranquila salvo el fuego de AAA desde la costa inglesa.
Al regreso una mala maniobra mía me tiró contra el avión de Balker que esquivó por pocos metros el impacto. ?Lindo debut?, pensé luego.
En un par de ocasiones perdí a mi superior pero luego nos reunimos todos para aterrizar y terminar la misión, en mi caso, bañado en sudor, algo frustrado por no haber apuntado algún derribo, pero contento de volver a casa sano y salvo.
